acme-is-still-the-best-1Last Sunday was a night to remember; many felt the tension and anxiety as the closing moments drew near. Finally, the announcement of the Top 3 clubs was made and Acme Taekwondo being the TOP Club for 7 glorious years had to relent her Kingship to Yio Chu Kang CC and was contented to be 1st Runners-Up. Acme Taekwondo was happy to relent this year’s Overall Winners Trophy, as in spirit and grit we are outright WINNERS.

This year saw last minute withdrawals from members, as most young juniors had their examination the following week. Also, a good number of juniors and seniors were representing schools to justify their cause. With that number of physical losses, Acme Taekwondo would have clinched the TOP CLUB award easily as those members had all clinched GOLD in their respective categories. With a heart of GOLD, members of Acme Taewkondo could be heard miles away screaming their heads off to justify their competitive spirit of friendliness even towards opposing clubs.

The Championships was held over a period of 4 days (16, 17, 30 and 31 Aug 08). Members fought hard to retain the Overall Champions Title, which they have held since 2000. Their fighting spirit paid off with a grand haul of 9 Golds, 4 Silvers and 15 Bronzes, thus claiming 2 out of the possible 6 categories that were up for grasp. The Young Junior Girls and Junior Boys were enough to secure the 1st Runners-Up Title for Acme Taekwondo.

Another surprise came when Jason Tan, a member of Acme Taekwondo (10 years), since he was 7 years old clinched the BEST PLAYER AWARD of the Championships. This was in recognition of his stellar record of medals and discipline in the sport. He was most delighted to be recognised by the President and Management of the Singapore Taekwondo Federation for all his effort put in.
